Do you have vent-free logs? Remember, it is most important that you keep the burner clean. Over time, substances like hair, pet dander, or just accumulated household dust can settle on the burner and cause a smell in your home. So make a point of cleaning the burner at the start of each season, just by wiping it down with a dry rag. Avoid using cleaning fluids, as this may leave a film that will be combusted and in turn cause a smell. Be very careful when putting your logs back in place – it is critical that you place the logs correctly, as your directions show, in order that there is no unwanted flame impingement on the logs which could cause soot to form.
